“What if…”

Not sure what to do? Check out these common questions for direction.
Have a question not answered here? Go to the “CONTACT US” page to ask.
We may even add it to the list to help other residents.

... I lose or break my keys?

  • If you just locked them in your room, you can call safety at 585-813-9262 and submit the lock-out request for assistance.
  • If lost/broken, contact CollegeVillage@genesee.edu to request a replacement.
    • We encourage residents to retrace their steps and try to find their keys first, but if you still cannot find keys, email CollegeVillage@genesee.edu for assistance. Once we process your request (generally 1 business day), your old key(s) will no longer work and we will email you to coordinate pick-up for any new keys. The cost of replacements are as follows:
      • Bedroom Key = $75
      • ID Card (contact the Student Engagement & Inclusion office at SA@genesee.edu)

...I notice something is broken?

  • Submit a Maintenance Request AS SOON and AS OFTEN as you notice an issue so we can come take a look, and if it’s still not working right, let us know so we can try again or see if more work is needed.

...I need to do laundry?

Laundry is FREE for residents, no quarters or swipes needed!

Ask your RA or email CollegeVillage@genesee.edu to confirm the location of your laundry room. Please be courteous of others who need to use the machine by following basic laundry etiquette.

... I got a letter from the Dean's office about a ``report`` or ``incident``?

  • Remember, we are here to support residents. If you receive a letter about your behavior or presence during an incident, we want to review the expectations and help you connect with resources to help you be successful. Follow the instructions for attending the meeting or reschedule if needed. Missing the meeting without rescheduling in advance will impact you status as a student/resident.

... I am struggling with classes?

  • Residents have access to all kinds of resources at GCC. Here are just a few that can help.

...I am no longer enrolled full-time?

  • Residents are required to be a full-time student of GCC (12-15 credits). If you are unable to maintain a full-time schedule due to major restrictions or personal reasons, contact us right away to discuss you situation.
  • Please note: a change in registration status can affect your Financial Aid. If you were planning to use aid, loans, or other institutional funding to cover the cost of housing, you may owe additional costs if dropping below full time.

...I am having issues with my roommate or neighbors?

  • Review the Roommate Agreement you completed together at Move-in or start one using the form on the left.
  • Talk to your RA about a mediation to discuss your concerns and find a resolution.
  • After attempting to mediate the issue, if the problem persists, you can request a Room Change if/when space is available.

...I want to move-out...?

To formally leave College Village you need to “check-out” by returning your keys to the office. You can do this with a “Check-Out Envelope” which is available in the Village Hall office at the center of College Village. More details are available at www.gccvillage.com/check-out

See the scenarios below for details and information about how this may affect your account and charges that may apply based on the date that you return all keys to the CV office.

…because it’s the end of the academic year and I’m going home!
  • Follow the instructions on our “Check-Out” page to learn how to clean your room and return keys: www.gccvillage.com/check-out
  • Have a great summer! If you plan to return in the fall, submit a new contract and request your desired room and roommates at www.gccvillage.com/apply

…because I want to return home early or move-off campus!
  • The housing contract is for the full academic year so please note you will still be held financially responsible for the cost of fall and spring. Submit the HOUSING WITHDRAWAL form below if you believe your situation requires further consideration.

…because I’m graduating in December!
OR transferring, or withdrawing from GCC for the spring semester.
  • Congratulations! Though we’re sad to see you go, we hope you have many wonderful adventures beyond GCC.
  • If you will no longer be a GCC student in the Spring semester, you can request to be released form your Housing Contract early by submitting the HOUSING WITHDRAWAL form below. Please note, the deadline is December 1st.
…because I want to move off-campus?
  • The College Village Housing contract is for the full academic year. You are responsible for the full cost of housing even if you check-out early and/or start a lease elsewhere. If you have questions, please contact our office for assistance.

…because it’s the end of the academic year?
  • Residents are expected to check-out by cleaning out their apartment and returning all keys to the office.
  • If you lost your keys, complete the check-out envelope anyway to let us know you have officially left campus. Please see the “Lost Keys” section above for additional information.
  • Damages to the facilities and charges related to conduct or lost keys will be deducted form your deposit and you will be refunding the remaining amount.

…because I just want to go home?
  • Please get in touch with us. Our goal is to help all residents feel welcome and safe. If you are struggling, we want to help. The contract is for the full academic year so leaving without properly checking-out, or notifying the office can result in avoidable charges. Please contact us so that we can support you.
